How to Complete the Recording Rarities Pursuit in Dredge

Recording Rarities is a side Pursuit (Quest) available in Dredge where you’re tasked with finding, catching, and reporting the location of four exotic fish to the Travelling Merchant. The four fish are only available to catch once, but you can force the game to respawn them using the Exotic Bait introduced with The Iron Rig DLC to catch the fish’s aberrations.

This guide shows you where to find each fish, what gear you’ll need, and how to complete the quest step-by-step.

Finding the Exotic Fish

Oarfish

The Oarfish can be located in Gale Cliffs and caught at any time with an Abyssal Rod or the Atrophy ability. It consumes a 6×2 space in your cargo.

You’ll need to sail to Gale Cliffs and navigate through the biome’s rocky valleys to a waterfall at its centre. Sail through the waterfall into a secret cave, where you can find the Oarfish and a Treasure Chest with a Big Bag of Doubloons and a piece of Refined Metal.

Gulper Eel

The Gulper Eel can be found in Stellar Basin. It requires a Hadal Rod or the Atrophy ability but is available at any time. It consumes a 4×2 space in your cargo.

To catch it, you need to enable the generator at the Research Outpost and then sail to the centre of Stellar Basin, where you can fish the Gulper Eel out of the water.

Goliath Tigerfish

The Goliath Tigerfish can be found in the Twisted Strand biome. It requires a Mangrove Rod or the Atrophy ability but is available at any time, consuming a 4×2 space in your cargo.

To catch the fish, sail to grid E12 of Twisted Strand, where you’ll need to blow up a log with explosives to progress. Sail through to the centre of the clearing, where you can catch the Goliath Tigerfish and dredge an Emerald Ring.

Coelacanth

The Coelacanth can be found in the Devil’s Spine biome. It requires an Abyssal Rod or the Atrophy ability, is available at any time, and consumes a 5×2 space in your cargo.

To catch it, you need to sail to grid Q12 in Devil’s Spine, and you’ll find the fish hidden behind some debris you can destroy with explosives.

How to Report Your Findings

Once you’ve caught any or all of the exotic fish, you can quickly report your findings to the Travelling Merchant by docking at any of her locations and then speaking with her.

When doing so, you should have the option to report the location of any caught fish to her by selecting the “I found an [exotic fish] dialogue option, shown below.

By collecting all four fish and reporting their locations to the Travelling Merchant, you’ll complete the Recording Rarities Pursuit.
