Steam Animal Fest sale discounts dozens of cozy games – here’s our top 10
Steam launched its Animal Fest sale earlier this week (November 11th), discounting dozens of animal-themed games. We’ve spent some time and combed through the sale to highlight our top 10 picks from the Animal Fest sale, from new releases like Winter Burrow to cozy classics like Bear & Breakfast. Take a look below and make sure to grab them before the sale ends on November 17th.
1. Winter Burrow
The newly released Winter Burrow is a cozy survival adventure where you play as a little mouse returning from the big city to your childhood burrow, only to find it in disrepair, and your aunt missing. The game sees you work to restore your broken-down childhood burrow to its former glory, all while uncovering mysteries, helping the forest community, and making a cozy little space for yourself.
Gameplay leans into cozy survival and crafting. You explore the outdoor frozen wilderness to collect resources while crafting tools to help you, expanding your survival handbook, and making friends. Back in your burrow, you can cook, knit sweaters, bake pies, and decorate your home, all the fundamentals for a cozy experience. With winter fast approaching, this might just be the perfect cozy game for the holidays.
2. Bear & Breakfast
Follow Hank, an anthropomorphic bear who, with his friends, decides to convert an abandoned shack in a forest into a bed and breakfast venture for unsuspecting human tourists. Expand your business across multiple locations and uncover a deep forest mystery along the way.
Gameplay focuses on managing multiple bed and breakfasts, building and decorating rooms for guests, managing tourists and their needs, solving quests and making new friends, and venturing out into the world to collect resources. Unlock perks to help your business by completing quests and storylines, and enjoy a gorgeous, colourful adventure.
3. Lil Gator Game
Lil Gator Game follows a young alligator as he attempts to rally together his friends, all while exploring an island filled with secrets and fun activities. Swim, climb, and glide across the island to uncover everything it has to offer, from serene hills, dark forests, and high rocks to stunning rivers and more.
Relaxing in tone and stress-free, Lil Gator Game focuses on quirky exploration and highlighting the strength between friends, all of whom will require you to complete a quest or two before they decide to join your adventure. With some light combat, adorable customization, and so much more, there’s plenty of cozy fun to be had.
4. Little Kitty, Big City
In Little Kitty, Big City, you’re a black cat who accidentally finds yourself lost in a big Japanese-inspired city after a scary fall from your apartment. Your goal is to find your way home, while meeting other animals, exploring the city, and engaging in typical “cat things” as the big city becomes your playground – from causing general chaos to finding the perfect nap spots.
You can jump and climb across the colourful city, help the animal friends you meet on your journey with their problems, customize your cat, unlock adorable hats to wear, and take plenty of fun pictures. Little Kitty, Big City is one of my favourite games, thanks to its short length but calm and chilled gameplay.
5. Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Hello Kitty Island Adventure is essentially Animal Crossing, but with more adventure, mystery, and drama. It follows Sanrio characters Hello Kitty and friends as they’re left stranded at an abandoned theme park on a tropical island after a getaway trip goes wrong. Like many of the other cozy games in this list, you’re tasked with rebuilding and restoring the theme park to its former glory.
Mixing traditional life-sim mechanics with fun exploration, you’ll have a massive world with eight distinct regions to discover, as well as chances to swim, run, climb, and float across it. Help Hello Kitty and friends with their personal quest, dabble in some cooking, make friends, celebrate birthdays, solve puzzles, customize your character, and do so much more. Honestly, there’s a reason Hello Kitty Island Adventure has won so many awards since its release.
6. Cozy Caravan
Cozy Caravan is a slow-paced road trip where you and your frog-friend drive a caravan around a scenic map, helping out locals, unlocking recipes, crafting items, and trading goods. The story is minimal but charming, and it’s filled with plenty of fun characters to meet, as well as a gorgeous world to explore with resources to uncover.
If you’re someone who enjoys a more calm, cozy game, and one that focuses more on relationships between characters while also offering you some traditional side activities to enjoy, Cozy Caravan is one for you.
7. Amber Isle
Amber Isle takes the cozy life-sim experience and combines it with a fun prehistoric focus to create something fresh. In the game, you move to Amber Isle, an island inhabited by Paleofolk, cute dinosaur-type villagers, to run the island’s only shop. You’ll need to design, name, and run your shop and use profits to decorate it as you see fit, all while helping to rebuild the island and exploring exciting new areas.
The game’s main focus is shop management, but its island customization allows you to truly make Amber Isle your own, and with more than 40 Paleofolk to befriend, there’s a lot to keep you busy for hours on end. This is time sinker, and, to be honest, perfect for the upcoming holidays!
8. Planet Zoo
Planet Zoo is the zoo management sim. At its roots, you build, manage, and customize your dream zoo by planning and decorating animal enclosures, hiring staff, researching new animals, managing the park’s finances, and caring for your animals, from lions and tigers to elephants, giraffes, and so much more. Sandbox mode offers complete customization and limitless creativity, allowing you to manage everything to the tiniest detail.
If the base game isn’t enough, there are DOZENS of DLC packs adding more decor, animals, gameplay scenarios, and so much more to the game. Planet Zoo is huge, and it’s a must for anyone who loves animals.
9. Grimshire
Grimshire is basically Stardew Valley, but a horror game. Following a shipwreck, you arrive in a village of animal inhabitants and you’re tasked with restoring your old farmhouse and growing a farm, all while working to keep the town’s harvest stocked as a plague threatens its wellbeing.
You’ll need to plant, care for, and harvest crops, while forming relationships with the locals of Grimshire. The usual mechanics are present here – animal husbandry, resource gathering, mining, trading, and more – but you can also expect some slight horror as any of the villagers may not survive the tragic events that unfold…
10. Fruitbus
Fruitbus is a food-truck style cozy game where you drive a fruit-filled bus across scenic routes, stopping in towns, serving customers, and managing your produce. The story is light-hearted and adorable, as you explore a colourful world with your bus, build friendly connections with quirky characters, create tasty fruit-based delicacies, enjoy lots of side activities, and discover new locales with plenty of secrets for you to uncover.
Expect to spend a lot of your time resource gathering, cooking meals, and serving customers, all while spending your hard-earned money on upgrading, customizing, and expanding your food truck. If you’re a foodie like me, Fruitbus is one to add to your cart!
