Leafy Corner gets Steam playtest – and it’s one of the most wholesome things ever
Developer Fireline Games has launched a public Steam playtest for its brand new plant shop business sim Leafy Corner, allowing you to try the game before launch.
The game, the debut title from Fireline Games, sees you run a cute plant shop where you must grow, sell, and care for a variety of different plants while completing customer orders, helping match customers to their ideal plant, and customizing your shop as you see fit.
Leafy Corner’s playtest is a small slice of the demo, allowing you to unlock the first level of your shop’s reputation, grow nine different types of plants, discover your first variegated plant, complete around a dozen objectives, and help customers find their ideal plant.
It takes around 30 minutes to complete, although you’re free to continue playing once everything has been unlocked and finished.
I tried the demo to see how it plays
I played for around 40 minutes, during which I completed all objectives, unlocked all plants, and completely customized my shop – but I did miss discovering the demo’s only variegated plant (and I’ll have to boot the game up again to try this).
Aside from some very cute and whimsical music, the demo lacked most sound effects from customer reactions to basic interactions like customers purchasing plants and our playable character using the till, and while it would have added to the experience, I still enjoyed my time with the demo.
I spent the majority of my time neglecting customers and forgetting to water plants in favour of trying to set up my shop correctly; placing tables and shelves, evenly placing plant pots, and changing the floors and walls of the shop – all things you can do within the demo yourself.
The demo also offers a look at what you can expect long-term gameplay-wise, as you’ll complete objectives to unlock Plant Tokens, which can be exchanged to unlock new plants, plant pots, furniture, and decor.
The orders menu was also available, although locked until the shop’s third reputation level – something for us all to look forward to in the full release.
After playing it for almost an hour, I can’t wait for the full release. Unfortunately, there’s no official release date yet for Leafy Corner, but you can wishlist the game on Steam and join the Leafy Corner Discord server to stay updated on any announcements.
The Leafy Corner playtest is available to try now on Steam.
