The developers behind Dredge, Black Salt Games, have announced the studio is working on a brand new game, but it’s not a sequel to Dredge 2.

In a LinkedIn post thanking fans for their support and bidding goodbye to horror fishing sim, the studio revealed that the upcoming game is not Dredge 2, but rather an open-world RPG in a “brand new, dark setting”.

Details on the new game are being kept under wraps, but Black Salt Games has promised that their new project will “stay true to their focus on atmosphere, intrigue, and surprising mechanics”.

In a press release, Black Salt Games CEO and Producer Nadia Thorne said: “We’re taken Dredge as far as we can technically – especially while continuing to support players on previous-gen consoles.

“It’s time to turn our attention to something new.”

“Creating Dredge was so rewarding for us,” Black Salt Games Programmer and Writer Joel Mason added.

“Seeing players respond so positively towards our work is so incredibly fulfilling. It’s reaffirming to know that players enjoy the types of worlds that we want to create – and gives us the confidence to try to do it again.”

Dredge launched back in 2023 for consoles and PC to rave reviews, and it was followed by two DLCs – The Pale Reach and The Iron Rig – before the game was ported to macOS and mobile devices earlier this year.

While a sequel may not be in the works, the world of Dredge will still be expanded, as a film has been announced.

Black Salt Games team announces new studio

In addition to confirming work on a new project, members of the Black Salt Games team also announced the official formation of a 90s style second studio; Disc 2 Games.

The studio was co-founded shortly after Dredge’s launch by Nadia Thorne, who is serving as Producer for both Black Salt Games’ second game and Disc 2 Games’ debut title, along with longtime collaborators Kris Nicholson and Johannes Otte.

Disc 2 Games will work independently while based in the same office as Black Salt Games in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Kris Nicholson, the Technical Director at Disk 2 Games, said of the team’s current project: “It’s a fusion of ideas that we think work well together, we’re really excited to share more about it soon.”

Creative Director Johannes Otte added: “The game initially welcomes players with a bright, stylish, and fun facade. However, beneath this polished surface lies a gritty world, waiting for players to immerse themselves in and join our characters in rebelling against.”

News on Disk 2 Games’ debut title is expected to drop within the coming months.
